Case Study: Does Hypnotic Writing Really Work?

by Dr. Joe Vitale
www.mrfire.com

If you’ve ever wondered if the words on a website
were very important, then keep reading.

Brad Yates is a master at EFT, or Emotional Freedom
Techniques. EFT is a method for tapping away psychological
issues so you are free to have, do, or be what you want.

Some people call it “psychological acupuncture.” You
use a finger or two to “tap” on certain areas of your
body, which releases stuck energy so you can move
forward without any internal blocks.

Snicker if you like. EFT has been used for well over ten
years and is now practiced by tens of thousands of
people. They can’t all be faking problems and then
faking resolutions. EFT works.

Brad Yates was one of my guests when I did my “Attract
a New Car” teleseminar a while back. I liked him and told
him about an idea I had for a series on “Money Beyond
Belief.” It would be a course to help people remove their
barriers to having money. Brad would teach people EFT
so they could remove their blocks to receiving money.

Brad loved the idea, we conducted the seminars, and
then quickly put up a website to sell the audios. Now,
Brad knows EFT but he doesn’t know marketing, so the
site wasn’t the strongest in the copy area. The words
left something to be desired. I offered some advice but
didn’t have the time to rewrite the site. So we left it
alone and opened it for business. You can see it at
http://www.bradyates.net/page45.html

Take a moment and look at the site.

What do you think of it?

Is the copy strong?

Is it hypnotic?

What’s missing?

And here’s the million dollar question:

Does the copy make you want to buy the product?

Brad and I told our lists about our product. We stood
back and waited for orders.

And waited.

And waited.

Orders trickled in.

Weeks later, we still didn’t have enough orders to
make either of us very happy. We ended up using
EFT on our disappointment.

While I wanted to rewrite the site, I just couldn’t get
to it with my books, projects, media appearances, travels
and more. Thank goodness a young copywriter by the
name of Sam Rosen came to Brad and offered to help.
Sam had studied all of my Hypnotic Writing materials
and was game to prove his skills.

Sam completely rewrote our site. You can see the
new copy at http://www.MoneyBeyondBelief.com

Take a moment and look it over.

Now here are the same questions as before:

What do you think of it?

Is the copy strong?

Is it hypnotic?

What’s missing?

And here’s the million dollar question:

Does the copy make you want to buy the product?

Here are the results:

The first website, which we’ll call exhibit A, bombed.
It barely made 100 sales in 100 days.

The second website, exhibit B, blew down all the
doors and made $8,500 in sales in only one day.

So, does copy make a difference in selling?

Consider:

* The product was the same.

* The price was the same.

* The audience we promoted it to was the same.

The only change was the writing.

Please note: The *only* change was the copy.

The next time you scratch your head and wonder if
hypnotic writing will help your sales, re-read this article.

And then expect money beyond belief.

Many excellent web designers know next to nothing of web marketing, and this can be a big problem. Marketing a site in search engines requires that the site be designed in a search engine compatible format. Many beautiful sites do not fare well in search engines at all simply because of the way they have been designed. Here are some things web designers should know about web marketing.

Load Times

Beautiful sites with lots of graphics may look awesome, but are often so slow to download that web visitors, particularly on dial-up connections, will simply go elsewhere before the site even finishes downloading. Some search engines also may penalize sites for being to slow.

File Names

When designing a site, all of the file names of the site should be representative of what’s on each page. File names like page_1.html are not helpful in conveying what is on the page. Search engines look for sites that are relevant and that are clear about the information being provided. Descriptive, yet short names, like web_marketing_design.php tell not only search engines spiders what’s on a page, but humans as well.

URLs

Similar to file names, URLs should be created in formats that that are meaningful to humans and search engines. Often URLs are a combination of domain names, directory names and file names. All of these elements should be descriptive of what’s on the site, the directory and the page respectively.

Also, many shopping cart use URLs such as http://www.somesite.com/store/index.php?pid=2786247642 . Looking at this URL, neither search engine nor human can determine the contents of the page. http://www.somesite.com/store/widgets.php?product=sky_hook_widgets is much better. It seems most major search engines will now index pages with question marks in the URL, yet this may still hinder some smaller search engines. Shopping carts that do not use question marks in the URL are available and make for cleaner looking URLs that are easier to remember, such as http://www.somedomain.com/store/sky_widgets

Alt Tags

Alt tags are displayed when graphics have been turned off. A surfer may turn off graphics to get better Internet speed or may rely on alt tags because of physical impairment. This is probably why search engines still seem to weigh alt tags into their search ranking algorithms. Many web designers leave alt tags blank, when in fact they could be populated with keyword laden and accurate descriptions of the images.

Usability

There are certain elements that users of the web have come to expect of the sites they encounter. Examples would be Home and Contact buttons. Have you ever been to a web site and found yourself digging for the Home or especially the Contact button? I don’t know about you, but I find this quite annoying. Ahh… What a breathe of fresh air to go to a web site and find the menu in the same location on every page and have the first button be Home and the last button Contact. Mmmm, I get warm just thinking about it. Yet, designers are driven by aesthetics and beauty. “How boring to always have the same menu format!” might be one web artist’s cry. Boring - perhaps. Easy to use? Yes. When it comes to marketing and web sites, easy-to-use goes a long way toward making a sale.

Meta Tags

Commonly Web designers will put the same meta tags on every page of a site. This is not nearly as effective at getting ranked in the search engines as focusing the meta tags of each page to a few specific and accurate keywords on the page. The goal of search engines is to bring relevant data to its users. Having page specific meta tags is another way of showing not just search engines, but your visitors as well, exactly what your page is about. This makes finding your pages that much easier.

Generally, before designing a site, it is a good idea to determine your keywords first. Determining your keywords is the topic of another article altogether. Once keywords have been determined, the site can be designed in such a way as to focus most on those keywords, in the domain name, directory names, file names, the menu names, the alt tags and meta tags. Designing your keywords into your site will give you a huge advantage over many competitors and is much easier than designing keywords into a site after it has been designed.

As your Internet business grows, your free time will dwindle. Site changes will become time consuming and stressful. Automate your site and you can use your time for better purposes.

Automating

Automating a web site can cut out tedious tasks such as updating HTML, FTPing pages and changing site designs. Advanced automated web sites can send follow-up emails, send out newsletters, manage sales, do invoicing, track users visits and more. There is practically no function that can’t be accomplished.

There are many different types of automated web sites. Typically, the platforms break down into two categories, prepackaged or made to order. Automated web sites can range in complexity from simply using server side includes to full database driven sites. Server side includes are little snippets of code that allow content from one file to show on many pages. A database driven site, on the other hand, pulls content from an online database.

Web site information stored in an online database can be quickly and seamlessly inserted into many different types of templates. This becomes a huge time saver when you need to make a universal change to a web site. Depending on the system, the change can be made as a snippet of code or input directly into the database. Once entered, the regenerated site will carry the changes throughout the pages. In contrast, a non-automated site would require you to make changes to each individual page, a time wasting task. Let’s look at any example.

Assume you have a database driven, automated site. After testing the site, you discover the font appears very small in certain common monitor settings. Making an executive decision, you decide to change it throughout the site. With a manual system, you must pull up each page file for the site and change the html. If your site has 100 pages, you better break out the coffee! If your site is automated, however, you can simply address the font change in the database ONE TIME and generate the changes on all the pages. We are talking about saving days of your time.

If you are creating a site, make sure you use an automated platform. Don’t waste days of your life making manual changes.
